Biochem/physiol Actions:
α1-chimaerin is expressed in developing neurons and is controlled by synaptic activity. It plays a crucial role in human neuronal signal-transduction mechanisms. Any alteration in α1-chimaerin expression leads to the pruning of dendritic spines and branches and supression of its expression leads to increased process growth from the dendritic shaft and from spine heads.
General description: CHN1 is a 38-kDa GTPase-activating protein (GAP) and phorbol ester receptor domain. α-chimaerin gene have two isoForms, α1and α2 chimaerin. Both the isoForms contain C1 and Rho-GAP domains but α2 isoForm contains an N-terminal SH2 domain which is absent in α1. It has N-terminal SH2 domain, the C-terminal RhoGAP domain and the central C1 domain similar to protein kinase C.
