Biochem/physiol Actions:
The protein is a cytokine-inducible negative regulator of cytokine signaling and is regarded as a therapeutic target for inflammatory diseases. Proteasome-mediated degradation of this protein has been shown to be involved in the inactivation of the erythropoietin receptor. It is involved in the regulation of T-helper cell differentiation by inhibition of the IL4 signaling pathway which promotes differentiation into the Th2 phenotype. It is involved in several immune responses.
