Biochem/physiol Actions:
COPS3 (COP9 signalosome subunit 3) is a component of COP9 signalosome complex (CSN), which is involved in various cellular and developmental processes. The protein encoded by this gene possesses kinase activity that phosphorylates regulators involved in signal transduction. It is necessary for maintenance of cell proliferation in the mouse embryonic epiblast. The gene is located within the Smith-Magenis syndrome region on chromosome 17. Overexpression of the COPS3 gene is associated with the tumorigenesis process in osteosarcoma.
