Biochem/physiol Actions:
Cystathionine catalyzes the last stage of trans-sulfuration pathway from methionine to cysteine. It acts on the α,γ-elimination of cystathionine to give cysteine, α-ketobutyrate, and ammonia. Its deficiency causes an autosomal recessive disorder cystathioninuria, leading to increased urinary excretion. Its activity is inhibited by propargylglycine, trifluoroalanine and aminoethoxyvinylglycine.
General description: Cystathionine belongs to the γ-family of PLP-dependent enzymes, responsible for the production of H2S (hydrogen sulfide) in mammals. Cystathionine γ-lyase mainly responsible for the production of H2S outside of the nervous system.
Immunogen:
synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 293-305 of human CT
Physical Form: Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
