Biochem/physiol Actions:
CTSL2 belongs to cysteine protease of the papain family. It is also known as cathepsin V and highly homologous to Cat L. In human predominantly expressed in thymus and testis. Studies show that CTSL2 is also expressed by colorectal and breast cancer cell lines as well as by various tumors, including ovarian and renal carcinomas. Cathepsin L is involved in the degradation of the bulk lysosomal protein load and may contribute to the generation of antigenic peptides.
