Biochem/physiol Actions:
αCP-4 is an RNA-binding protein coded by PCBP4 gene in humans and is mapped to 3p21 containing 10 exons. Induction of this gene expression reduced cell growth, may acts as an tumor suppressor and is associated with RNA-binding protein with lung carcinogenesis. Lack of alpha CP-4 expression is associated with highly proliferative lung tumors and correlates with αCP-4 allele losses. The protein contain two domains homologous to the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleo-protein K homology (KH) domain. PCBP4 is a novel cellular p53 target gene and is a potential mediator of p53 tumor suppression.
